Letterpress

Letterpress

Letterpress is a beautifully textural process and the oldest form of printing, which has enjoyed a more artsy resurgence in recent years. A letterpress invitation feels and looks more organic, befitting an outdoor celebration, whereas engraving feels and looks more glamorous, befitting a more formal occasion.

Letterpress involves pressing ink into a thick cotton stock, embedding any text or design into the paper, creating a visible and tactile indention. By nature letterpress inks are more transparent and, when handled by an amateur, will vary in depth from one area of text to another. When handled expertly, the ink color will be consistent within the same text size (a big dot may appear darker than a small letter).

The Gutenberg bible was printed via letterpress, as are many classical books and manuscripts to this day.

Dulles offers the highest quality letterpress printing on environmentally conscious cotton stocks for our clients who are passionate about letterpress invitations.
